Young Americans Believe in the Power of Voting

Winter 2020

Throughout our research over the years, members of this age group have consistently said they see voting as the best way to bring about social issue change. They proved the truth of their words in the 2020 presidential election in two significant ways: first, by voting in greater numbers than ever before, and second, by voting for the candidate they believed best represented their own stance on a particular social issue.

81% of young Americans rated their 2020 voting experience as good or very good because:

Most of those votes were specifically aimed at improving racial equity. Even with ongoing concerns surrounding COVID-19 and the ability of individuals to cast a vote that would be counted, this cohort was intent on using the ballot box to create change for Black Americans.
